Well trolled, that’s me.

It is not too often that I get caught in the no-man’s-land between first and second base, but tonight I was tagged out, good and proper.

You got me.

Woe is me. Everyone hates me.

I am disgusted that you would use someone’s IP address . It is unethical and now you have mine too.

Well, the internet works on IP addresses. That’s how a server knows where to send a requested page to, for example.

If it helps, think of the internet as a gigantic post office. When someone mails you a letter, that letter has to have your address on it, or it could well end up literally anywhere. IP addresses are the means by which web traffic is routed to the proper location. Every web site and every web page you view keeps a log of the addresses of their visitors. The ability to view these logs is generally restricted to the administrators of the pages and sites.

Disgust is misplaced, as you “use” IP addresses every time you go on the web. Ethics are sort of irrelevant, as the IPs are essential for the whole shooting match to work.

I will put your IP address someplace special and never look at it again.

I spoke to Sara2222 on iVlog. She explained and told me she was disgusted that you would be unethical and PUBLISH/POST at your blog an IP address that you were able to view. I hope this makes her comment more clear.

I will decline to allow any commenters to determine what is or is not ethical. I will decline any commenter’s claim that they speak for anyone other than themselves.

I will continue to be amused by the soft trolling. By all means, continue.
